Jeanette Levy
Jeanette Levy studied painting for her undergraduate studies at Vassar College, and completed a Master's degree in Communications Design at Pratt Institute. She works as a book designer and creative director in children's publishing, and has attended artist residencies and retreats in New Mexico, Washington, and Maine.
Her paintings explore themes of abstraction, surface, and reflection. She uses deliberate brushwork and bold, expressive colors to distill perceptions into visual juxtapositions of shape, light, and mood. Subject matter includes landscapes, cityscapes, abstraction, still life, and sea creatures, with recurring motifs of rocks, plants, and textural patterns. The collection includes oil paintings on canvas and acrylic works on paper, ranging from small, intimate studies around 6 x 6 inches to larger, more dramatic vistas around 3 x 3 feet. Jeanette draws inspiration from her immediate environment both at home in New York and while travelling. She sketches on site, takes reference photos, and then produces finished work in the studio.
